Gone but never forgotten

The lad.  Oh how he would have enjoyed unwrapping his Christmas gifts…. Actually he always enjoyed the wrapping paper fiasco,  when somehow wrapping paper ended up all over the sitting room!

This image of him popped up as a reminder the other day.  That set me off!  He was actually looking through a bird hide on the Arlington estate.  Good memories.

We miss you Lad ❤️

Sad news

We very sadly said goodbye last week to our wonderful William

who travelled over the rainbow bridge.

Life will never be quite the same, he was such a character and

enhanced our lives and those who met him.

Snooze

The lad spends quite a lot of time snoozing these days, but that's not such a bad thing.  He does keep us busy in between his snoozing time though:  asking for a walk, a drink of milk, some treats, a drink of water from his special dish on the balcony, and another walk to round it all off...you get the idea!

It's good to see him snoozing, we know he isn't in any discomfort from the arthritis, the meds from the doggy doctor definitely work.

Rabbit

Sometimes William doesn't even spot the rabbits, but this time one found itself in front of him - it soon made off.  Not that it needed to worry.  Back in the day, William would chase rabbits and amazingly, he would  S-L-O-W   D-O-W-N   giving them the chance to get away!   (We are glad he did that btw).

The other day, he was quite close to one....(as ever click the pic..it's a Very short clip about 11s).

You called?

I almost expected him to say

"What?"

the expression was so funny.

Guarding my art supplies

William has just wandered into my art room, having been for a walk.  Before that he had some breakfast, demanded a little drop of milk in his dish, went into the sitting room and randomly barked!, we don't know why - perhaps he just wanted us to know he was there, as if we hadn't noticed.  I go up to my art room and then he wanders in and stiffs around - then regardless of the fact there's no cushion for him to lay on, he promptly flops down and takes a snooze 💤💤💤    Obviously a busy morning!

You may have noticed a lump on the back of his front leg!    The vet checked it out and said it wasn't hurting him, and he does walk okay with it.   Her advice was to leave it as it is, if removed it wouldn't heal up properly and his latter days would be upsetting for him - so we are just keeping an eye on it

A Day at a Time and every day a bonus ❤️

Precious moments

William at his age, 14½, obviously has good days and some not so good days.  We accept that this happens and work around him, we're his Carers after all.

So when William has "moments" of fun and games, we treasure them.  Here's one such 'moment', albeit short and not terribly exciting, but to us it was an interaction with the elderly chap  - William I'm talking about, not hubby ;)

A little update on William

All is well with William, but a little update nonetheless ....

Yesterday morning, Thursday 24th March, William didn't seem to be himself.  Something was 'off' with him, his balance for one and he seemed to walk slightly crooked, holding his head to one side :((      Yes, we think he had suffered a minor stroke during the night.   We kept him quiet for a couple of hours and let him decide when he wanted to move....which in true William style he did.

The video below (click the image for it) will show you how well he has done in just a couple, or three, hours.

Update to today, Friday 25th March, and William looked himself again.  He has been demanding breakfast, pressies, and gone for his walk, and his love of going upstairs onto the balcony for his drink of water - a bowl placed especially for him and refreshed with cold water on demand, of course

Yes, he is a little wobbly, but that's to be expected considering his arthritis - oh how his meds help.

At 14½ years, he is doing remarkably well and we are grateful for every day...they are all a bonus.

Beach time

Okay, it wasn’t long for him on the beach.  In fairness we had just walked around a large seaside car park, then walked down a slope to the sand.  We were concerned in case William over did it and couldn’t make his way back up to the car….so we have to do the decision making and William seemed happy.

In time honoured tradition…click the image below ….

Storm Eunice

We seemed to be front line with Storm Eunice that hit the UK, particularly the South West with a Red Warning for damage and danger to life, yesterday.  Mostly, people stayed indoors, schools were closed etc but there comes a point when you have to take your dog for a walk.  Towards the end of the storm, Graham plus our daughter Lil and little Dottie ventured out.  Lil captured this small clip of William showing that he can still outpace Graham....you have to watch this through and will see when Graham is actually hurrying to catch up with William....so funny.

William is doing okay these day, however ......

He has good days and bad, so during the bad days, we just let him take things easy.

One strange phenomenon though,

he manages to hurry to the kitchen when he hears a treat packet!!!
