Metal posts reappear occasionally when the sand gets swept out, and we certainly had storms early in the year to do that job. These were left over from WW2 where the beach was used by Allied troops to train for the D Day landings Here's a little bit of info for you, just click this link. (ssshh, don't mention the War!...as if I would - An important piece of history should always be mentioned don't you think) |

Interesting. I'm following a series about the landings and liberation of Holland at the moment.
Here's my thought on erasing history. If we erase it, we are destined to repeat it. I don't know who said that, but it's true. We have to LEARN from history.
William looks like he's found the best thing ever!
thank you for the link with the dragon's teeth and all.
what an incredible time it was... and the part that Devon played in it.
So interesting! Although I think it may be lost on William......lol. ;)
Thanks, Anne and William, for posting the link to that very interesting piece of history!
Without those brave soldiers training we wouldn't have the freedom we enjoy today. Nice to see a piece of history emerging from the sand.
Well done to William for appreciating his find :)
Judy....what a coincidence! I hope the snippet I added will be of interest to you 🙂
Sue...You are so right! Yes, William thought it was there for his convenience 🤣
Tammy...There a monument of stones along the seafront to commemorate what the Allied forces did here 🙂
Robin....William is very cool 😎 about these things 🤣
Unknown....Glad you found it interesting 🙂
Eileen....my feelings exactly! Where we often walk, has a car park named Marine Drive. Not for nautical reasons, but named after the Marines who built the original roadway there. 🙂
that's interesting and a beautiful sketch.
Sandy......thanks! 🙂
Is it because of that training that bombs occasionally surface on your beach and surrounding area? Or?
Anonymous....Yes, quite likely, especially as they seem to be duds. They do, however, get exploded under controlled conditions to be sure.
