You can tell that it is near on impossible to actually capture this action at the time -
William rubbing his back and rolling around happens too quickly.
Although I can remember some of the shapes and angles he makes,
it is much better for me to take photos/video and work from that.
First the quick sketch
I take out the unnecessary squiggles
and define the outline a bit more
A wash of watercolour in the background
and then...

You captured his movement very well!
I dearly love all your sketches and the little videos! and I love hearing the natural sounds he makes always... like the snuffling and the shaking! GO WILLIAM! xoxo
I bet that was a good back scratch! My esteemed late colleague Joey dog loved to roll in the grass, despite being rather dignified on all other occasions such as food watching and squirrel chasing. But me, not so much. It was very interesting to see how your human does your drawings. Thank you very much for showing us!
Thanks Judy, I tried and it's fun giving it a go π
I'll tell him you said...π
Thanks Chester, glad to know you enjoy seeing these sketches and videos π
Once again you NAILED IT! ;)
You always capture William's movements perfectly.
Annie always has a sniff at then gives a couple of scratches of the ground before she goes down for the roll. I try to stop her when I see the tell tale signs. :)
Awww Thanks π
You're lucky you get tell tale signs Eileen. William tends to just FLOP, in fact he seems to throw himself down...he's a strange lad π
Our cocker spaniel, Ginger used to do this. Then she'd get up and sneeze about 30 times!
Obviously Ginger had a routine, lol π€£
