Perhaps he is trying to dig to China! Don't know if parents tell their kids that across the pond, but they do (or they used to anyway!) say when we would dig deep holes that we were trying to dig to China.
Yes, we do say that here, but for us we always say digging to Australia!....must be something to do with where we are on the globe, lol :)
